Children's Activities:
Children's story times are
conducted at all times of the year. Schedules may vary as to day
and time, so call the Library for current information.
The Summer Reading Program for children is
very popular for local and visiting youngsters. Activities
usually run from the last week of June through the first week of
August. Along with story times, many special programs are
offered which feature visiting artists and performers. Stop by
and pick up a brochure any time!
Programs for Adults:
A number of special programs for
adults are conducted throughout the year at the Library. These
programs vary from movie matinees, to poetry readings, to
lectures by specialists in many fields. Call the Library or stop
in to see what's going on!
Display Case:
Exhibits placed in the display
case reflect the varied interests and collections of our
Northern Door community. A new exhibit is on display every
month, year round. If you are interested in showing your
special collection, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator at
920-854-4691. Exhibitors may, but are not required, to give an
informal "Collector Talk" about their display.
Volunteer Opportunities:
With our new, larger facility,
we depend heavily on volunteers from our community to carry out
both the day-to-day tasks and the special happenings at the
Library. Our dedicated volunteers shelve books, maintain the
gardens, conduct programs, and hold our annual book sale. Please
phone Nancy at 920-854-7392 if you are interested in joining us!
Marina Fest Book Sale:
This annual fundraiser is held
the Saturday of Labor Day weekend under the tent at Sister Bay's
Marina Fest. Books for the sale are donated and collected the
last two weeks of August. The sale is held from 10:00 A.M. - 4:00
P.M.,
with totally volunteer help. The book sale presents an excellent
volunteer opportunity for all aspects of the big event--from
setting up, to sales, to packing up at the end of the day--we
can use YOUR help! Please contact Nancy at 920-854-7392 to
volunteer your time.
Background Information:
The construction of the Sister Bay/Liberty Grove library
building in 2002 was a cooperative venture of the Village of
Sister Bay and the Town of Liberty Grove along with private
donors to the project. Of the $1.5 million needed, a third was
provided by each of the above entities. On-going expenses for
the operation and upkeep of the facility are shared by the Town
and the Village. The Sister Bay/Liberty Grove Library Building
Commission is made up of three representatives from the Village
of Sister Bay and three from the Town of Liberty Grove, plus the
Librarian. Funding for staff and materials comes from Door
County.
